The Years In High School -Ninth Grade

Tips for ninth grade:

  • Identify efficient, effective study habits
  • Use your time wisely, in and outside of school
  • Ask your teachers for help when you need it
  • Check in with your guidance counselor
  • Start thinking about plans for college

As a ninth grade student, adjusting to life as a high schooler will be your primary priority. You’ll learn a lot during this first year of high school, including study skills, time management, how to manage extracurricular activities, and how to balance commitments in and out of school. As a high schooler, you’ll be held to a higher standard with higher expectations. To meet these expectations, it’ll be crucial to find a manageable routine that balances homework, extracurricular activities, friends, family, and your health.

You may be thinking that middle school prepared you for everything you’ll need in high school, but you’ll find that there’s more to learn. As the subjects get harder, so will the tests, which may require an upgrade to your study habits. Making flash cards is a dependable way to commit information to memory, as is rewriting notes from class, reading notes aloud, and asking your friends or family to quiz you on information that will be covered on a test or quiz.

In addition to your friends and family, your teachers want to see you succeed and are willing to help you do so. If a subject is challenging for you, it’s smart to get in touch with your teacher to see if they can offer extra help outside of class, especially before a test. If your school offers a tutoring program, don’t be shy about taking advantage of it—they’re there to help! If your school does not provide supplemental tutoring services, Stutorialz can step in.

Putting adequate time and effort into your classwork is the best way to get on the fast track to good grades, which are important from day one of your high school career.
